Lost our Way

We no longer camp or go on day trips,
our laughter stolen by the stress of life.
Hopes forgotten and dreams removed.
We lost our way.

We no longer quarrel,
no longer debate.
We don’t agree,
nor do we care.
Eyes wonder during the effort to talk.
All a laborious discussion-the task of getting along.
We are no longer each other’s cheerleader,
now only a pain in each other’s side.
Hardly worth the time and energy;
it’s easier to seek happiness with something new.

We lost our identities, and blame each other for the misery and regrets.
Traveling down a path diverging;
our view in the rear view mirror is now unknown.
We lost our way.

Desperate we search for optimism,
looking to find and smell a rose.
We sacrifice our morals just to keep the peace.
Mystified, we ponder when and where it went wrong.
Resolved, we accept anything in order to find our lost way.
